Mission Statement
When you buy a kitten from our Breeding Cattery you will expect to get a purebred kitten who has been socialised, so that he or she will be people-friendly. It will like to be cuddled (in fact, it will demand to be picked up and cuddled!). It will have had a least one vaccination (if not two), and it will be toilet trained and well-mannered; it will not destroy your furniture, as long as you provide it with a scratching pole or some other scratching facility or surface, and it will be healthy. And this is what you will get and more.... Read on
This kitten will be worm-free, flea-free and will be used to most good quality cat foods. The kitten will be registered with the NZ Cat Fancy and you will receive notification of this by us with the NZCF Registration Number when you buy the kitten or shortly thereafter. All of our kittens are registered. A purchase Contract detailing these expectations and conditions is signed by myself and the new owner and a copy will be retained by each party. The contract states that the kitten will be looked after by the new owner, that he or she will not dispose of the kitten without advising the breeder first. That the kitten has a 10 day health guarantee and a guarantee that the kitten does not have any known genetic faults. That should the kitten become ill within ten (10) days of Purchase, that I will either - take it to my Vet at my expense to diagnose and treat the illness, or either take the kitten back and refund the purchase price or let the person choose another kitten (if available). This guarantee is only for contagious diseases or congenital faults (birth defects), that I was not aware of at time of sale. It DOES NOT apply if the kitten has been given poor quality foods that will cause stomach upsets and/or diarrhoea. As well, the contract states that if the kitten should die from a genetic related fault, I would apply the same ruling to the guarantee. (A Vet's written certificate would have to be received by me detailing the genetic fault as a direct cause of death.)
As all of our pet kittens are now neutered/spayed prior to their going to their new homes, we advise the NZ Cat Fancy Longhair Registrar about the new owners' details. The Registrar will then forward the new owner directly, the NZ Cat Fancy registration in the new owner's name. This is what we offer when we sell a Hekla Pedigree Persian Kitten.
We expect that a buyer of our kittens will ensure that the animal has a good quality of life. That it is given good food, a loving home, a comfortable environment and regular vaccinations. That the kitten (and subsequently cat), will be regularly groomed and that he or she will be given all that is needed for it to be happy.
We do not expect to have to rescue it from the SPCA should the owner decide that he won't or can't keep it. We would like to be advised that this is the case, and we would appreciate it if we were given sufficient time to try to avoid it being surrendered to the SPCA or other animal shelter. We (unless the cat is to go a member of the family or friend of the owner) would like to be given the chance to re-home the cat/kitten. We don't expect that the owner will break the terms of the agreement, as they would not expect us to do so either.
We would like to know where the cat is in order to keep in touch with the owners. If the kitten (or cat) is not happy with its home or if his owners don't like him for any reason (or have other family members who don't), or if they are unable to keep him any longer, we would prefer it if we were told of this in order for us to try and find it a new home.
We would expect that the kitten/cat would, if it becomes ill, be taken to the Vet as soon as possible to diagnose and treat the illness. That if he or she was suffering with an incurable disease (i.e. cancer or renal failure), that the owner would consider the animal's health and 'quality of life' before their own emotional response.
This is what we would do if faced with this decision, and we would like to think that this is what would happen also when people who buy our kittens have this difficult decision to make. However, we would like to think that this scenario would not occur very often and would be many years away in the distant future, if it happens at all!
This is our 'Mission Statement' as responsible Persian cat breeders.
